I am so excited you are here! If you are anything like me, you want to get fit, have a ton of energy to get through the day, feel confident in your clothes, look good, feel good, all that (without it feeling like work). Right? We want it ALL!
I have always felt like I needed to lose weight. In high school and college I was never super confident and always felt like I wanted my body to look differently. More toned and fit. So I started to workout as I pursued a degree in Exercise Physiology and I got in REALLY good shape! I saw my first muscle pop (in my shoulder) and I was so proud because I really thought I would never have muscle tone.
Then in 2013 I had my first baby! Pregnancy was my favorite! I felt so excited and honored to be able to carry this baby. I had the best time being pregnant (after the morning sickness wore off)! But, I let all my healthy habits slip and I gained 65lbs. The day I went in to have my baby I was at the heaviest I had EVER been at 199lbs. I thought for sure it was baby weight, placenta, increased blood volume and whatever else that would just go away as soon as this baby came out. I.WAS.WRONG.
I vividly remember the day that my husband and I took our newborn baby to my in-laws for a pool party. I didn't have a bathing suit that fit me nor did any of my shorts or t-shirts fit! I even tried my hubby's oversized shirt and it still fit like a sausage casing. I was so defeated and sad about how out of shape I was. I took my first ever BEFORE pic that day (with the camera strategically placed in front of my face so nobody would ever know it was me if somehow this picture made it out of my vault)! It was the only bathing suit Kmart had in my size and it was so ugly!
That day I felt fat, defeated and like a complete failure. I had a dream to build a career in fitness and there was no way I could ever lead anyone in the physical and mental shape I was in.
I got to work (in the gym and with my nutrition) clawing my way out of that deep hole I felt buried in. It took about 10 months but I did it! I lost ALL my weight, got in even better shape than I was before and I lit a fire in myself. I had proved to myself that I am strong and can do hard things. I became unstoppable! Along this journey I had started the beginning stages of what our gym is now. This is what it looked like from the very beginning:
2014: Facebook Page Girly Swole- Brave enough to share my fitness journey with everyone publicly
2015: Erika Lu Bootcamp- Training people in my backyard, front yard, City Park and the Lakefront (Max 20 People total)
2017: Undaunted Fitness- I changed the name of my business to reflect the mission. To inspire and lead our community to live a bold, brave, UNDAUNTED and fit life. We also moved into our first brick and mortar location on Zenith in Metairie (with only 10 members, talk about scary but I have always seen a really big picture for this gym and believed in myself to build it)!
2018: Undaunted Fitness- On the move again. After a scary encounter with a crazy neighbor at our last place we abruptly moved to our current home on Sanford. I'll have to tell you that story one day. It was insane but it was the push from God that I needed to build this gym bigger so we could make a bigger impact in more people's lives!
So here we are! A bootcamp gym with Real Ryder spin classes, and many specialty classes like Trampolean, Boxing, Abs, Turn up with Trisha (dance fitness), etc. Our signature (and most popular, raved about) Bootcamp classes are 45 minutes and use a variety of training styles. You'll never get the same workout or the same timer which is great for getting results but it also keeps you consistent! We have a lot of fun here! Everyone knows everyone and we all become like family. We have a private Facebook group where we stay connected and hold each other accountable. It's a really fun place to be and to workout. Our goal is to create an energy experience every time you walk through our doors so you'll want to keep coming back! When you're having fun, it makes working out a lot easier!
